Telephone fundraising - NSPCC

The NSPCC worked with a specialist telephone fundraising agency in a campaign designed to reach people who had given to the charity on a regular basis in the past, but where they had not given a gift for up to three years.

Supporters were thanked for their previous help, and case studies were used to illustrate how their gifts had been vital in protecting children through critical NSPCC services. Each supporter was asked to recommit if they could to a regular gift through their bank at amounts ranging from £2 to £10 a month (depending on how much they were comfortable with).

Gifts could be given using ‘paperless’ direct debit, so the donors did not have to deal with any paperwork but could arrange their donation over the phone by simply providing their bank details.

The campaign was an overwhelming success. Despite many supporters not having given to the NSPCC for three years, nearly a third of the people the callers spoke to agreed to start giving again. Within the year, the charity had generated £2.60 for every £1 it had spent on the campaign.
