Press and magazine adverts - FAQs

Who regulates the content of fundraising adverts in newspapers and magazines?

The Advertising Standards Authority is the authority in this area.

How do I check that a fundraising advert is legitimate?

The advert should carry the charity registration number. This can then be checked against the  Charity Commission website database

How do I make a complaint?

If you are unhappy with the content of an advert or a leaflet you have seen in a newspaper or magazine, first contact the charity that has placed it to express your view. If you don't receive a satisfactory response you may also raise the issue with the  Advertising Standards Authority
