Fundraising over the Internet

Although many charities now have their own websites, fundraising over the Internet is still quite new.

With the exception of household names like the British Red Cross, Oxfam, Cancer Research UK, the NSPCC and Comic Relief, and disaster relief appeals many charities are yet to make money through their websites.

The main reason charities have websites is to make information about the cause widely accessible and cut the costs of communicating with groups such as volunteers, campaigners and service users or beneficiaries.

Using the Internet charities can reach a large number of people at relatively low cost.
